Board of Directors

Scott’s daughter Lucy is a former student of Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC and he is pleased to give back to the community that provided so much for her. Scott and his wife Sarah have been and continue to be involved with fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Lucy has an older brother, Will, and a younger sister, Annie. Scott is a lawyer at Boughton Law.
Gardy is a financial adgardyvisor working for a private firm in Vancouver.  He has been helping local families and businesses make informed financial decisions since 2003.  Born and raised in Vancouver, he is very excited about working with a local organization focused on the children of our city and of the greater region and province.  Gardy completed a degree in Pacific and Asian Studies from the University of Victoria, with a concentration in Chinese.  It was here he met and since married Kate (Butterfield) and now has three children: Avery, Charles and Hudson.
Ben is a Managing Director at Raymond James, he closely follows a group of publicly-listed companies that participate in various segments of the construction, transportation, and resource sectors of the economy. Ben regularly visits institutional and retail investors across North America and Europe who rely on his research to guide their investment strategies. According to annual industry surveys, Ben has been consistently ranked among the top analysts in his field. Ben holds an MBA from the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario and a BA in Economics from the University of Alberta. Prior to his 18 years’ experience at Raymond James, Ben worked in public finance for the Ministry of Finance in Ottawa and at the University of Toronto’s International Centre for Tax Studies. Ben also sits on the board of the Cherniavsky Junior Fund, which provides financial assistance for musical performances to schools across B.C.
avriltysoeAvril is a Human Resources Manager at Boughton Law where she manages the development and execution of all programs and initiatives in the areas of recruiting, compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, employee development, performance management and employee relations. She holds a B.A. from SFU and is a Certified Human Resources Professional. On a personal note, Avril lives in North Vancouver with her husband and their Boston Terrier, Tux. She feels honored to be sitting on Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC’s Board and giving back to the community.
calvina-linkedinCalvina is a Marketing Manager for Travel Masters, a Canadian travel brand supporting travel professionals and agencies. She provides strategic marketing insight and manages the creative and technical elements of the company’s marketing campaigns. She holds a BCom with a specialization in Marketing from the University of British Columbia.

On a personal note, Calvina is an avid skier and has become a highly-requested ski instructor. Aside from spending time on the mountains, she is also a competitive athlete for a top dragon boat team while dabbling in marathons and triathlons. Calvina was diagnosed with a hearing loss in both ears at a young age and received services from the Centre. She feels honored to be on the Board and to be able give back to the Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC, a place that has played a huge part of her upbringing. She credits the Centre for giving her the necessary skills and confidence for her to meet any challenge she faces.

20131204FarrisBeth Hardy0054-EditBeth joined the Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC Board in 2014. She is the former Director of Marketing for Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. Before Farris, Beth spent 10 years working at a technology company running their corporate communications department. Early in her career she worked at Iris Communications, a boutique fundraising and public relations firm. This is Beth’s third year on the Centre’s board and she is the chair of the government relations committee. She is a graduate of the University of Victoria.

In addition to her work with the Centre Beth was previously on the board of the Association of Women in Finance. She lives in Vancouver with her husband and is an avid skier and shoe shopper.

garyGary is the Principal of St. George’s Senior School in Vancouver. He has been an educator for the past 18 years and has been committed to improving the lives and opportunities of all students. Gary holds a M Sc from the University of Oregon and a B Education from UBC. He recently moved to Vancouver with his wife, Megan and 3 children, Dayna, Blair and Ian.  Being relatively new to the Vancouver community, Gary looks forward to making a positive difference and contribution to Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC.
juma-woodJuma an internal project training manager with lululemon athletica in Vancouver. His background is Education, and he has worked educating children and adults in his career and private life, in companies, in schools, through martial arts and through athletics for more than 20 years. He feels blessed and fortunate to be asked to serve the children of the Centre and is curious to learn how best to help steward the future for those who need our services.
Dr. Dickson is the only pediatric otolaryngologist in the Fraser Health Authority and serves as the ENT Physician in the investigation of newborn and infant hearing loss. His role has mainly been to educate families about etiology and ear or hearing related issues. Being a part of Children’s Hearing allows Matthew to be involved in a more holistic manner and contribute to the community on another level. Previously, he has been a volunteer at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, Easter Seals Camp Squamish, and BCCA Camptimes. He is married to his beautiful wife Caroline and has two happy girls, Pauline and Keira.
